Ye Ma Ma
Music director Pravin Mani's album, 'Ye Ma Ma', was released in Chennai by music director Vidyasagar. The first copy was received by another popular music director, Deva. The CD is marketed by Super Audio (Madras ) Pvt Ltd and is priced at Rs 100.
The album is in the Tamil folk remix genre, which has also been produced by Pravin Mani. Pravin has composed music for 'Ottran', 'Perarasu', 'Dancer', 'Ramji London Walle' and 'Little John'. He has also done work for 'Hollywood Bollywood', 'Natasha', and 'Black Waters' among others.
The songs in the album have been rendered by Manickavinayagam, assisted by Srinivas, Suresh Peters, Kartik, Timmy and Suchitra.
Pravin said it had taken him over four years to complete the album. He felt that Manickavinayagam had a unique voice with a different timbre, eminently suited to folk music.
Manickavinayagam said it was Madhav Das of Magna Sound who had first introduced him to Pravin Mani, and this meeting resulted in Pravin offering to make an album with him. Later, Vidyasagar happened to listen to one of the songs in the album. "It was Vidyasagar who gave me the first song in films with 'Kannukulle Niruthi' in 'Dil' which was a superhit and the people accorded him recognition". He also recalled his over 15-year association with Deva, especially the years they worked together for several private albums.
Vidyasagar said it was not he who gave the first break to Manickavinayagam but Pravin for having used him in the album which was under preparation more than four years ago. He was happy that Pravin and Manickavinayagam had succeeded in getting the album released after a four-year struggle.
Deva said Manickavinayagam had worked hard to attain a special place in the film industry. Today, he had more than 300 songs to his credit, he pointed out.
Navin Daswani and Kunal Daswani of Super Audio said Pravin Mani had provided a different kind of music for the album, which was a remix of Tamil folk with Western orchestration.
T G Subramaniam of IMI appealed to the people to cooperate with the police and music companies in preventing piracy of music and films.
Rathish Babu, CEO - India, SAE College, said the album had 10 excellent tracks ranging from traditional, folk, baila to modern folk.
Music director Imman and singers Srinivas, Suresh Peters, Karthik and Malathi were among those who participated in the function.
