Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today condoled the death of M S Subbulakshmi.
In a message here, he said, "I am deeply grieved to learn about the demise of Dr M S Subbulakshmi, a doyen in Carnatic music." "Bharat Ratna Dr M S Subbulakshmi, a legendary in Carnatic music, known for her simplicity and her devotion brought fame to our nation.
Her death is a great loss not only to Carnatic music but also to the entire music world. I convey my deep felt condolences to the bereaved family," the Governor said in his message.
In his condolence message, DMK president M Karunanidhi said, "With M S Subbulakshmi's death, the music rain has stopped." Former Tamil Nadu Governor P S Ramamohan Rao, in his condolence message, said "In the passing away of Subbulakshmi, India has lost one of its outstanding achievers of the 20th century, whose angelic voice provided indescribable joys to the countless millions of music lovers in India and abroad.
"Born poor, she died nearly poor, unencumbered by the fortune and fame she had earned which is perhaps the most fitting tribute to her innate simplicity, religious virtuosity and generosity of heart," he said.
