Kalam pays floral tributes to MS

Chennai, Dec 12: President A P J Abdul Kalam today paid floral tributes personally to the icon of Carnatic music M S Subbulakshmi, who passed away around midnight last night following a bout of 'broncho pneumonia'. 

Kalam who flew down to Chennai at 3.30 p.m. from Delhi, drove straight to her residence at Kotturpuram, about six km from the airport, and placed a wreath on the body. 

He spent a little over 10 minutes at her residence and consoled the relatives of the late vocalist. In his very brief interaction with the Press at her residence, Kalam said that her death was a "great loss to the nation and her services to music world was unparalleled. She was a born genius". Kalam was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala.
