Muthamizh Peravai
The 29th music fest of ‘Muththamizh Peravai’ was inaugurated at the Bharatha Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, recently by DMK president M Karunanidhi who made an impassioned plea for holding Tamil music and culture festivals in all the districts of the State.
Karunanidhi regretted that it was only in Tamil Nadu thata movement was required to protect the Tamil language. He recalled the struggle of musicians to remain committed to Tamil as the medium of expression. Union minister T R Baalu and senior DMK leaders were present at the function.
Karunanidhi presented the Rajarathna award to Dakshinamoorthy Pillai, the Iyal Selvam award to Kumari Ananthan, the Isai Selvam award to Thiruppampuram Shanmugasundharam, the Natya Selvam Award to Mutharasi Ravi, the mrudanga selvan award to A Chandrasekaran and the Tamilselvan award to T R
Govindarajan.
Durai Murugan, the principal secretary of DMK, said it was unfortunate that none of the sabhas in Chennai had Tamil names and did little to encourage Tamil in the classical form.
