Honour for Pattammal, Lalgudi
Doyen of Carnatic music D K Pattammal and veteran violinist Lalgudi Jayaraman will be honoured for their contributions, during the centenary celebrations of the Bangalore Gayana Samaja, being organised in Chennai for the first time on November 27.
The programme, being jointly organised with the Narada Gana Sabha, will be inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna, Samaja president H Kamalanath and Narada Gana Sabha secretary M Ravichandran said.
The award carries a Rs 20,000 in cash, besides a citation and memento.
Justice K S Bakthavatsalam is to chair the function.
Kamalanath said 150 programmes had been organised so far as part of the centenary celebrations and that all eminent artistes of Tamil Nadu had participated in many of these
programmes.
Ever since the Samaja was formed in 1905, it had built a strong bond with Tamil Nadu, organising Carnatic and Hindustani classical music programmes, besides classical and folk dance programmes like Yakshagana, Harikatha and dramas, he added. (Agencies)
