Nanganallur Hanuman temple music fest
The Adhivyadhihara Baktha Anjaneya Swami temple in Nanganallur sounds unfamiliar, yes it is the 32 ft Anjaneya - getting ready for his birthday - Margazhi Moolam, which falls on December 30, 2005.
To celeberate Hanumath Jayanthi festival for three decades consecutively is not a joke. A unique feature is the grand music mela which is being held every year along with Hanumath Jayanthi celeberations. Since Anjaneya is a sangeetha priyar, the trustees make it a point to please the Lord by arranging concerts of eminent musicians.
This year's music festival, the 31st in a row, commences on December 17. The inaugural in the evening will be followed by a vocal recital by Bombay Sisters Saroja and Lalitha. The temple has instituted 'Hanumath Gana Sironmani' award which is given to stalwarts in the field of music.
This year's awardee is Sangitha Kalanidhi T K Govindarao. A torch-bearer of the Musiri bhani, he emulates his guru Musiri Subramania Iyer in all aspects. His stint as a chief producer, Carnatic Music, AIR, New Delhi, and AIR Chennai, reflect the strength of the tradition to which he belongs.
The trustees, who are connoisseurs and patrons of fine arts, have roped in artistes covering a wide spectrum such as vocalists, percussionists, wind and stringed instrument players. Since music and dance go together, dance performances are also arranged. Budding artistes are also encouraged. NRIs make it their prerogative to participate in this festival.
The concerts are held inside the temple premises, next to the sanctum sanctorum.
