Neyveli Venkatesh’s European tour
To spread our priceless treasure - music - to the Orient is the life mission of Neyveli Venkatesh. Drowned in the world of mridangam, he was recently invited to take advanced classes in London. He was amazed to see the students involved in percussion. Some of them want to make a music samarpan(am) by dedicating their lives to rhythm, declares

At Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan in London he accompanied vocalist Unnikrishnan and got a standing ovation from the andience. He was invited to be the chief guest for a mridangam
arangetram.
His performance in a jugalbandhi concert with Poorbhayan on the sitar and Shashank on the flute will be remembered by the audience in New Castle, London.
His lec-dem attracted students of different nationality in Musik Conservatory College, Bern (Switzerland), and Paris.
Venkatesh’s interaction with the students at London Trinity College of Music will be etched in his memory forever. He was invited by the Dean, Mrs.Barrett, to impart the nuances to the students. His interviews were relayed in radios as well.
In Denmark Unnikrishnan and Venkatesh held some workshops to instil vocal and percussive expertise in students.
Europe is Venkatesh’s fortress. These is not a single city where he has not performed. Many schools in Denmark have benefited from his workshops.
He had the good fortune of performing in places like the Indian Embassy, Berlin, Italy Radio Koln (Radio Luxembourg) and Radio Baden Baden, accompanying frontline musicians.
His participation with Kadri Gopalnath in the wind festival held in Riga (Latvia) and Slovenia was a racy feature organised by the local governments and co-sponsored by ICCR (Indian Culture for Cultural Relations).
Venkatesh has travelled the length and breadth of Italy accompanying flutist Shashank. His performances in churches made the audience reach sublime heights as music trancends the barriers of language.
A unique musical event took place at Brussels (Belgium) called Triptico. The 7 days’ houseful shows at Theatre Varia was performed by Argentanian Julio Arozarena performing a choreographic evening through traditional percussion to three musical rhythms of the world.
(i) Iranian music and rhythm performed by a veteran musician Majhid Khaladj
(ii) Indonesian musical rhythms by Wardhana (Bali) (instrument Gamelan from Bali)
(iii) Neyveli Venkatesh representing Indian rhythms.
The Argentenian synchronised with the musicians separately for each music to match his performance.
At the ‘Festival of India’, held in Cartigena, Spain, Sanjay Subramaniam, accompanied by Neyveli Venkatesh, was well-received. His concert tour in Madrid, Lyon University (France), Music Guimme (France), made the listeners go ecstactic and yearn for an encore.
In the playground of Europe, Switzerland, he has accompanied many artistes in all major cities and has many students to his credit.
His accompaniment to Ganesh-Kumaresh in a prestigious Indian music festival Switzerland, Bern, was highly appreciated by flute genius Hariprasad
Chaurasia.
To Westerners, India is synonymous with Hindustani. Our musicians have toiled to make Carnatic music a household name there.
Neyveli Venkatesh is one of the first few among the trendsetters who has hoisted our musical flag on a foreign soil.
