Sanjay
Subrahmanyam’s concert
Sanjay Subrahmanyam
Nagai Muralidharan - Violin
Guruvayur Dorai - Mridangam
Neyveli Venkatesh - Kanjira
On Wednesday evening,
in spite of being a weekday, there was a very large gathering; a testament to the draw of Sanjay Subramaniam. And he did not disappoint them. The four hundred or so people who had come were treated to a scintillating performance. With Sanjay’s voice in great shape and in perfect alignment with the sruti, meticulous care in the planning of the concert, brilliant accompanists - all in fine form and enthusiastic, the concert was one that will linger in the memory for a long time.
This is not the time to quibble about whether this or that could have been done differently or that the tara sthayi panchamam was not properly reached and so on. The audience was simply swept aside by the unbelievable cohesion and appeal of the concert. The euphoria one felt at the end of the concert is beyond words. The list below describes the items used to create this magic. This is one of his best concerts I have heard in recent times.
Once the famous physicist Heisenberg was asked how he would define beauty in the context of the quantum mechanics he discovered. He said “Beauty is in the
proper conformity of the parts, to each other and to the whole.” If we apply this criterion of beauty here, this concert can be said to be truly very beautiful.
