The Carnatic music arangetram of Nityaa Venkatesan and Vidhya Venkatesan , daughters of Radha and S
Venkatesan, Kuwait, took place on Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Mini Hall) .
These two young girls, aged 15 and 12 years respectively, reside at Kuwait with their parents and have had their musical training from
Jayanthi
Shivanandan (popularly known as Jay Shiva), who conducts Carnatic music classes for her potpourri of students from the tender ages of five onwards to include mature professionals and homemakers.
The programme started with the prayer by Nadadhur Sisters G N Lavanya and G N
Aishwarya.
The recital by Nityaa and Vidhya on the arangetram day was excellent and very much planned and pleasing.
The kutcheri started with Bhairavi Varnam of Pachimirium Sri Adiyappaiyer, followed by 'Vathapi Ganapathim' of Muthuswamy
Deekshitar.
This was followed by 'Sobillu Spathawara' of Thyagaraja. One wondered if they were professional singers, such was the style of raga and swara singing. The Kalyani raga followed by Ragamalika swaras for the kriti 'Himadri Sudae' spoke very highly of the duo’s talent. They sang a Sai Bhajan , dedicated to their guru..
They were ably accompanied by two giants in Carnatic music, viz, violin vidwan Trivellore V Parthasarathy and mridangam vidwan Nagai S
Soundararajan.
The chief guest of the evening was Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Asthana Vidwan, Sangita Seva Niratha vidwan Sirkazhi R Jayaraman who spoke very highly of the young artistes’ talents and appreciated their parents and teacher for their sincere efforts in taking them to the platform. Further, Jayaraman gave the sisters the title 'Kuwait Sisters'.
