An engaging keyboard arangetram
A young boy, with a beaming smile, sitting confidently amidst percussionists made me speechless.
Sharath, the child prodigy, went on stage formally (arangetram) on August 26, 2006, at Music Academy Main Hall amidst a galaxy of musicians. His tutelage under M S Martin paved the way for his scintillating performance.
The chief guests were violin virtuosos M Lalitha and M Nandini. Sharath began the concert with a Varnam followed by ‘Vathapi Ganapathim’ in Hamsadhwani. He played the song with regal mien and invoked the blessings of Lord
Ganesha.
Tyagaraja’s classic ‘Entharo’ in Sriragam is a tough musical exercise and Sharath handled it skilfully. He regaled the audience with a fast-paced song ‘Raghu Vamsa Sudha’ which is ideal for an instrument.
An alapana in Hindolam brought out the genius in the lad. ‘Samajavara Gamana’ was the song and the tani avarthanam that followed will be etched in our memory forever.
Martin deserves praise for channelising Sharath’s potential. Sadagopan on violin, Vadivel on mridangam and Saravanan on ghatam are of rare genre. Vikram on tabla and Balachandar on morsing are endowed with prodigious talent.
