Carnatica, an organisation which strives to promote and preserve music and culture through innovative concepts, is celebrating the World Peace Day as a part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. Carnatica Brothers (K N Shashikiran and P Ganesh) are performing a marathon vocal concert from September 9 morning as a part of the celebrations.
The world in recent times has seen several man-made and natural destructions, which have left mankind search for peace all over again. Who can forget the
September 11 tragedy
or the tsunami that caused so much damage and there have been several such acts of destruction and violence, says
Shashikiran.

However, this has brought together several like-minded people who have been working to restore peace and harmony across the world, which has been one of the primary focuses of celebrating World Peace Day or the International Peace Day across the world on September 21.
It is expected that this performance would go on as long as the artistes decide to and this could be a record in classical vocal music, claims Shashikiran. It may be noted that Chitravina Ganesh already has the world record for the longest recital on slide instruments for his marathon 32-hour feat.
This marathon is dedicated to all those who lost their lives owing to the September 11 calamity and thereafter those who lost their lives due to other natural calamities such as the tsunami and earthquakes and other man-made destructions such as civil war in Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Mumbai blasts to name a few, Shashikiran said.
The Carnatica Brothers will start their musical marathon with the blessings of the percussion maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman from 9 a.m. on September 9, at Carnatica Culture Court, No 9, Shirdi Towers, Arulambal Street, T Nagar, Chennai-17. They will be accompanied by several other leading artistes during their marathon effort. The event is open to the general public and music lovers.
