Devi Kshetra Kritis
Universal mother Devi is worshipped in several forms as Bhuvaneswari, Kamakshi, Meenakshi. Each of the deities is enshrined in different places and many
composers have sung in praise of them.
Violin duo Kalaimamanis Dr M Lalitha and M Nandini will present a special thematic concert on Devi Kshetra Kritis for Kartik Fine Arts on November 26, 2006, at the Dakshinamurty Auditorium, P S High School,
Mylapore, Chennai.
They will highlight the different compositions of various composers in praiseof a particular deity of a specific town or place along with a multimedia presentation. This is an unique, unparalleled and rare presentation on this
theme packed with lucid information.
Dr V V Srivatsa, secretary, The Madras Music Academy, composer and eminent musicologist, will be the chief guest.
The accompanists for the violin concert are: Sridaran Sankaran (Australia) on the mridangam and Pudukottai Ramachandran on the
ghatam.
The violin sisters recently had a successful concert tour of the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Their major performances were in Surdhwani Arena, Milap Fest,
Manasamitra Batley Hall, Brunei Theatre, University of London, Saddlers Wells Theatre, Sangeetham festival, London Sath Sangam, Indian Consulate Auditorium, Hall of Ascension, Royal Academy of Music, Royal Philharmonic Hall, Golden Jubilee of Charles Wallace Trust, Sivayogam, charity concert for a templebuilding fund – London.
They were acclaimed as pioneers in introducing and performing Carnatic music at the University of London.
They have won some honours and awards like:
Title of Isai Puyalgal - London Murugan Temple
Awarded a gold chain by the London Muthumari Amman Temple
Title of Ganavarshini, Mahalakshmi Temple, London
Matha Bhuvaneswari's picture and kunguma prasadam from
Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam will be distributed to all the rasikas at the violin concert in P S High School.
