The title of 'Sakala Kala Valli' is to be conferred on Revathy Sankkaran, a multi-faceted personality, for her lifetime achievement. She is to be honoured at the Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha being conducted by the Mylapore Trio - S Amarnath, S Surendranath and S Aparna, on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.
The award is to celebrate Revathy's "versatility and contribution to Tamizh through Eyal, Isai and Natakam", says a note from the organisers of the festival being conducted by Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation.
The function is to be held at R K Swamy Auditorium, Sri Sivaswami Kalalaya School, Sundareswarar Street, Mylapore, Chennai - 600 004 (opposite R R
Sabha).
Though into its fifth year as a festival of "Tamizh Culture and Tradition for Children and Youth", it is the first year that the 'Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Rolling Trophy' is being awarded to someone. The winner this year is Uma Murali, the guru at the Sri Muralidhara Guruji
Vidyalayam.
Other titles and awards for talented children in art and craft are:
V Divya as 'Chitrakaarapuli' while Anjali Rajan as 'Palkalai
Vitthagi'.
There will be a special programme at 4.30 p.m. called 'Kadhambam', which will be presented by Revathy
Sankkaran.
