The Smt Mangalam Ganapathy Music Trust, Chennai, released two
CDs in the metropolis recently at a function held at the
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, comprising Mangalam Ganapathy's
compositions. The CD, titled 'Nithya Mangala Lahari', contains
songs on many deities, while 'Swabhava Madhura Sri Madhurakali'
has songs exclusively on Goddess Siruvachur Sri Madhurakali. The
songs in both CDs have been rendered by eminent vocalist
Nithyasree Mahadevan.
The chief guests for the evening were
industrialist Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty, A Natarajan, former
director of Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, noted Carnatic vocalist
Sudha Ragunathan and G S Mani, vidwan.
The first CD, 'Nithya Mangala Lahari', was
released by Natarajan, and the first copy was received by Sudha
Ragunathan. Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty released the second CD, 'Swabhava
Madhura Sri Madhurakali', which was received by Parvathi
Subramaniam.
Parvathi and her son Neelakantan are devotees
of Sri Madhurakali (their family deity). They were among the
persons who supported the production of the CDs. The chief
guests felicitated the composer, Mangalam Ganapathy, and the
singer Nithyasree.
G Subramanian, president of the Smt Mangalam
Ganapathy Music Trust, proposed a vote of thanks.
A concert by Nithyasree Mahadevan followed.
