Carnatic
vocalist Charulatha Mani has been presenting a series of Isai
Payanam concerts wherein she deals with ragas in classical and
film music.
This month ‘Isai Payanam with Charulatha Mani’,
the seventh concert in the series, will be held at Bharatiya
Vidya Bhavan, Main Hall, Mylapore, on November 17, Saturday, at
6.30 p.m.
The ragas in focus would be Amritavarshini,
Sindhubhairavi and Madhyamavati (along with Brindavani and
Brindavana Saranga).
Since it is a free programme, all rasikas are welcome, adds a
note from Charulatha.
There will be an interesting musical quiz with attractive
prizes as well.
Live DVD albums of the Isai Payanam concerts are produced and
marketed by Gita Cassettes. All DVDs are accompanied by a free
booklet containing classical and film song listings in the
specified ragas.
Charulatha also presents the series on Jaya TV. She deals
with a raga every Tuesday morning (8:20 a.m.), explaining its
striking features in simple terms. She outlines the Carnatic
compositions in the raga, and draws parallels with
semi-classical pieces and film songs based on that raga.
