Los Angeles recently witnessed a grand music program by the
students of Lakshminarayana School of Music as part of the
Ganesh Chathurthi festival.
Director of the school and musician, Composer Ganam along with
her students presented a rich fare of compositions.
Hamisini, Suraj, Sundar, Sahli, Vishnu sang the Pada Varnam in
praise of Neelakanta while Sangeetha (daughter of Ganam) sang
the compositions of her mother in praise of Kamala Siddhi
Vinayakar in the Raga Bhairavi and a Divya Nama kriti in Raga
Kapi which won accolades.
While Ganam herself along with her daughter,
Sangeetha gave a special musical feature on Lord Ganesa which
won a lot of appreciation.
Ganam has composed more than 750 compositions
in different musical forms – Jatisvaram, Svarajati, Tana Varnam,
Pada Varnam, Kriti, Tillana and bhajans.
The other students who performed that evening
include Brown Brett, Chandra Mohan and Sarvesh who sang in
praise of Rama, while Gita, Prasanna, Pramila, Pravina and Akila
sang in praise of Goddess Mahalakshmi.
Antarupa Sivadeva played a Tyagaraja Kriti on
the guitar.
Srinivasan on the mridangam, Swami on the
dolki and Leones on the ghatam ably supported the artistes.
Ganam and her students concluded the program
by rendering a mangalam composed by Ganam in praise of Lord
Venkateswara.
