Indo-jazz fusion music
Musical creation with the fusion of jazz and Indian music!
Subhash & The Cosmic Sound create a music of their own: one that is unique, that knows no barrier, no limit and gathers musicians of different origins.
Subhash Dhunoochand from Reunion Island, a renowned percussionist and founder of the group, is the disciple of Pt Sudhir Kumar Saxena from Baroda. Subhash, a Mauritian by origin, has always been inclined to fusion music and has been enriching his fusion experiences by performing with big names of classical Indian music.
Cosmic Sound started its musical explorations in 1998 with a search for a musical mix. Subhash and his friends decided to call this mix 'Indo-jazz' as they could not find a more appropriate word that would best describe this intersection of musicians of different origins. 'We begin with a theme but leave space for improvisations."
In 1999, the group gave a series of concerts with the Swedish pianist, Ola
Melander.
In Chennai, Subhash, whose magic fingers give life to the tabla, will perform with Pandit Rupak Kulkarni on the flute, from Mumbai, Luc Joly, a well-known saxophonist from France, Kawa Chavriacouty on bass guitar from Reunion Islands and Anatholi Bulkin, a Swedish guitar player, and Selva Ganesh on the
kanjira.
This concert is presented by Shruti Music, Conseil General and Regional Council of the Reunion Island, in association with Alliance Francaise of Madras, at the AFM on March 14.
