Sornammal Educational Trust
Three distinguished professionals from Ma Foi Management consultancy with an objective to make a difference in education established the Sornammal Education Trust (SET) in 1996. Initially, the trust worked in Sivakasi district, infamous for its child labour practice, by adopting students and providing them means to study. This, to an extent arrested child labour among the students.
In April 2001, the trust adopted a St Anne Primary School, in Kilpauk, which was on the brink of closure. Since the time of takeover, the school has seen tremendous development in the infrastructure and quality of education. It has grown into a middle school, and is to get its matriculation status by the end of 2005. It is sailing in the right path.
The trust's mission is to contribute in the fields of education, health and employment, with a greater focus on women.
At Kancheepuram, the Thiruvasagam competition was held for school and college students at the Pachaiyappa's School campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 18. The event was coordinated by Dr Shrimathy Ramalingam and Venkatesh of GVS Entertainers.
