Ilayaraja's One Man Show
Maestro Ilayaraja will perform live in Chennai on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Wesley Grounds in a tribute to poet Ponnadiyar and to raise funds for 'Mullaicharam' monthly magazine and 'Kadarkarai Kavi Arangam'.
Ilayaraja will sing and play several music instruments in this programme conducted by Lakshman Sruti orchestra, in association with TVK Cultural Academy.
Tickets for the show have been made available through Chennaionline. You can use your credit cards and order for the tickets online though the shopping section or you can click here and you will be taken to the order form.
You can also buy tickets from various outlets including
Chennaionline office at No. 2, North Crescent Road, Haveli Apartments, Fourth Floor, (off G N Chetty Road), T Nagar Chennai 600 017 (Ph 42071942, 42071943). The programme will be telecast by Raj TV later.
Lakshman and Ram, the brother-duo behind the success of the light music troupe, Laskshman Sruti, told Chennaionline that this will perhaps be the first time that Ilayaraja will sing throughout the programme, "right from the beginning till the end".
"Ilayaraja will possibly be the only male singer. He will sing some duets with female singers like Sadhana Sargam, Jency, Sasirekha, Malati, Uma Ramanan, Bhavatharini and Srilekha
Parthasarathy.
"He has said he will play some music instruments as well but we are not quite sure what he will perform. The list of songs is left to Isaignani," said
Lakshman.
"The programme will
fulfiLl the dreams of many of Ilaaraja's fans who want to hear him sing. In order to meet the demand for tickets, we have arranged for distribution of tickets in 25 towns in Tamil Nadu, and provided a gallery on three sides to seat 20,000 people," he added.
Parking arrangements have been made at adjoining YMCA ground so as to reduce the congestion at the Wesley ground in Royapettah, he said.
"It has been our dream to perform with Isaignani. To our delight, he has said he will sing some of his favourite songs. That's why the occasion will be special for us and all his fans as well," said
Lakshman.
Ilayaraja is donating the entire funds from the event to the magazine.
To add to the delight of the fans comes the news that comedian Vivek will compere the programme. Laser lighting is being provided to add lustre to the show.
"We are also readying our troupe members to familiarise themselves with Ilayaraja's Thiruvasagam as some of his fans may demand that he sing from the album.
Although it is difficull to try and re-create on a live stage the special sound effects created in a studio recording, and that too with 160 musicians led by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, we will try and do our best given the limitations," Lakshman said. "We have practised all the songs in the Thiruvasagam album," he added.
TVK Cultural Academy is assisting the 'Mullaicharam' magazine and Lakshman Sruti in the arrangements for the show along with Raj TV, the channel partner.
