Aanandaa Festival in Chennai
The Aanandaa Foundation is holding its second edition of the Aanandaa Festival in Chennai on July 7 and 8, 2006. It will be held at the Music Academy.
The programmes comprise a Bharatanatyam recital by Janani Iyer, disciple of Minal Prabhu of Kalshetra on July 7, followed by a vocal concert of T M Krishna the same evening; on July 8, Bombay Jayashri will render a vocal concert followed by a violin programme presented by V V Subramaniam, accompanied by V V Ravi and V V S Murari.
Subbu Iyer of Aanandaa Foundation said his company, Nandaki Management Systems Private Ltd, was enthused by the response to the first edition of the festival held in Bangalore last year, with the aim of promoting excellence and to bring about cultural renaissance.
He said Indian music and dance programmes, particularly from south India, required proper support, marketing and promotional activities abroad, for want of which moast countries were unaware of these glorious art forms. In contrast, performers of Hindustani music had greater exposure in the West due to greater professionalism in the management of their programmes and better presentation and packaging, he added.
Aanandhaa Foundation would attempt to rectify these defects in the organisation of Carnatic music or Bharatanatyam programmes, added V V S Murari of the foundation.
Speaking at a music session organised by the foundation to announce the second edition of the festival in Chennai, Bombay Jayashri, T M Krishna, V V Subramaniam were among others who lauded the efforts of Nandaki Systems in providing a global platform for Indian performing arts. They pointed out that artistes from south India needed more professional management and presentation of their programmes to gain wider acceptance abroad.
