Sahana's captivating park kutcheri
In the sixth of the Sundaram Finance ‘Sunday Kutcheri in the Park’, Sahana Soundararajan, a class-9 student, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Virugambakkam, enthralled the audience with her scintillating voice and korvais of the ragas between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. on July 2, 2006, at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
Sahana, named after the beautiful raga ‘Sahana’, had to compete with the chirping of birds in the early hours of the morning to be heard. The audience did hear her. She kept the audience spellbound right until the end with a finger-clicking 'Brahmamokhatey'. Encouraged by the audience, she gained confidence with every piece. Sahana was provided excellent accompaniment by J Shradha Ravindran’s violin and M Bharath’s
mridangam.
Sahana’s guru, Lalitha Santhanam (Sathur Sisters) was pleased as punch to see her 14-year-old disciple being lauded for her rendition of 'Marukelaraa' which had the audience asking for more.
