Carva - The violin ensemble in Chennai
More than 100 young amateur artistes from Carva will take part in a grand violin ensemble on Saturday, September 2, 2006, in
Chennai.
They belong to different age groups (from four onwards). They will perform at Mahodhaya Hall, Stree Seva Mandir, 36, 4th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, Chennai, from 6 p.m. onwards.
The entire group is divided into five sections depending on their level of mastery of the music. Each group will show their skills separately first and thereafter the whole group will perform together to play devotional bhajans, kritis and slokas in perfect harmony.
Carva, the violin acaderhy that specially encourages young artistes, is known for these kind of mega performances. Carva is also popular for using the violin as a guitar, i.e. playing the violin without using the bow. On September 2, the group will present 'Lingashtakam' using this special technique.
The annual souvenir will be released by Vaidehi Krishnan, Principal - GRT Mahalakshmi Vidyalaya, and received by Prof T R
Subrarnanyam.
Established in 2001, Carva was founded by C A Rajasekar, a music teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience. The objective of the trust is to propogate Carnatic music and encourage young talent. The trust has been planning and implementing innovative methods towards achieving this goal. Big group performances by Carva students during August/September are looked forward to every year since its inception in 2001.
A pilgrimage to Tiruvaiyaru during Tyagaraja Aradhana Festival and the performance at the shrine by Carva's students along with their teacher is arranged every year to pay tribute to the great saint.
