 'Padal' is a Tamil music album composed and produced by Srikanth Devarajan, an Indian composer based in Gaithersburg, MD, USA. This is Srikanth’s fourth commercial music album. His previous album, 'H1BEES', received rave reviews and press from media around the world.
'Padal' features 10 tracks in Tamil, ranging from the youthful to the romantic, humorous and classical songs steeped in culture. Srikanth explores a wide range of musical techniques and song concepts in this music album. The album has an innovative mix of style and substance, embodying the creativity of the composer.
Padal also features Karthik, one of the leading film playback singers of Tamil films, besides talented vocalists, lyricists and instrumentalists from USA.
Padal is being released in the US by H1BEES Inc.
Srikanth Devarajan, born and brought up in Chennai, started training at 17 in Western classical piano under John Jacob of Musee Musicals, Chennai. He completed musical grades from Trinity College of Music, London. His family friend and mentor Mani Sharma, a popular music director, later trained him in advanced musical concepts for commercial music production.
Srikanth, being a computer engineer by profession, had a natural inclination towards PC-based music production. He was a pioneer in Chennai in using computers for music production in the early 1990s.
During this period, Srikanth and his friend and music director John Peter, started producing music for advertisement jingles and background scores for various Tamil television serials.
Srikanth also performed on stage with a band named
'Alaapana'.
After moving to the United States in 1996 to pursue his computer science career, his music versatility grew further. He had easier access to learning and understanding various forms of world music. In 1998, Srikanth started producing and publishing instrumental singles via MP3.com. All of his instrumental tracks topped the Indian charts in mp3.com.
In 2000, his state-of-the-art studio 'Studio1234' came into existence. He started publishing singles using various local Indian talent. All of his vocal singles were released through MP3.com and his own website.
In 2002, his first commercial album 'Mahaakavi' was released by Kriya Kreations, Chennai, a recording company owned by renowned classical dancer, Dr Srinithi Chidambaram. This music album featured top playback singers like S P Balasubramaniam, Sujatha and
Srinivas.
The year 2003 saw Srikanth entering the world of scoring music for short films, thanks to many Indian movie-makers who teamed up with him to score original background music for their films. These films have been featured on triggerstreet.com, a website owned by Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey.
Srikanth's background score for the short movie 'Noose' received rave reviews from the triggerstreet community.
In 2005, Srikanth teamed up with his close friends Shankar Nagarajan and Srivatsa Srinivasan and formed a music production company 'H1Bees Inc' and released the music album titled 'H1Bees'. H1BEES was a huge critical and commercial success, and was featured worldwide by the media. This album also featured playback singers Tippu and G V
Prakash.
