Eminent music director A R Rahman was presented the prestigious Swaralaya-Kairali award for outstanding contribution at a colourful function in Thiruvananthapuram recently.
Rahman received the award from music legend K J Yesudas, in whose honour it is instituted by Swaralaya Cultural Forum and Kairali Television.
The award carries a prize money of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and citation.
"I feel greatly honoured by this award. Yesudas has always been my most favourite singer," said
Rahman.
A musical treat, featuring top Malayalam playback singers and an ensemble of percussion instruments led by 'chenda' maestro Mattannur Sankarankutty were also organised as part of the event, which drew a huge crowd of music lovers at the Nisagandhi auditorium at the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds.
