Who can forget the classic all-time hit, Senthamizh Then Mozhiyaal from Maalaiyitta Mangai? Kannadasan's song was aptly tuned by Viswanathan-Ramamurthy, the song moving from a slow melody to a fast-paced crescendo, with Mahalingam's voice soaring in the higher octave. A favourite of light music troupes even today.
Another song from Maalaiyitta Mangai (1958) is Naan Inri Yaar Varuvaar, once again delightfully penned by
Kannadasan.
Mahalingam's duet with P Susheela, Aaadai Katti Vandha Nilavo in Amudha Valli (1959), with lyrics by Thanjai Ramiah Doss and music by Viswanathan-Ramamurthy, is again an evergreen number.
A song that rocked music lovers over 60 years ago was Kaayaadha Gaanakathey kin Sri Valli (1945).
Another classic was Isai Tamizh Nee Seydha in Thiruvilaiyaadal (1965), a wonderful composition of K V Mahadevan, with lyrics by
Kannadasan. Click
