 Saregama India Ltd, India's first and largest music label, has taken the initiative to conduct a state-wide talent hunt across Tamil Nadu and Andhra
Pradesh.

Why a band hunt?:
Today, there are many hunts being done for singers, comedy talent and dance talent. But A R Rahman is the first to give credits to his musicians on the inlay cards. There are many who have worked with him including Sivamani and Shankar Mahadevan. Saregama, as a music label, brings alive Rahman's vision - a true search for hidden, creative musicians worldwide.
Auditions will be held in six centres of Tamil Nadu - Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Tirunelveli and Chennai - and five centres of Andhra Pradesh - Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajamundry and
Tirupati.
The criteria and challenge for selection would be that each band has to compose to the lyrics of lyricist Vaalee who would provide lyrics based on the theme 'Hope'.
The entire band talent hunt would be shot and telecast on Sun TV (Tamil) and Gemini TV (Telugu) as 13-week, half-hour episodes. Vasundhara Das would be one of the judges for the episodes.
The winning band in Tamil and Telugu will cut an album with Saregama India Ltd, said B R Vijayalakshmi, on behalf of
Saregama.
The 13 episode structure:
The first episode would be the curtain raiser explaining the concept and contest introduction, celebrity bytes.
The second episode would show the auditions in the various cities and the 18 winning bands that have been chosen to play.
Episodes 3 - 10 would feature the quarter-finals and semi-finals in a grand set-based show in
Chennai.
Episodes 11 and 12 would feature the finals and Rahman will select the finalists.
Episode 13 would feature the celebration of the winning group and the making of the album in Rahman's studio with reality bytes of family members.
Highlights:
Each episode would carry a two-minute portion wherein Rahman would talk on camera to aspiring musicians and give them valuable tips - for e.g., the beauty of acoustic instruments, the logic behind composing theme music.
