Yuvan scores with Kalluriyin Kadhai
If there is one music director who churns out good music, film after film, with a great deal of consistency and elan, it is certainl Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Catchy rhythms, simple tunes and an extraordinary ability to judge the pulse of the flm and music lovers at a very early age have given Yuvan a special place quite quickly in
Kollywood.
His songs for 'Oru Kalluriyin Kadhai' are an apt example of Yuvan's perception and understanding of the demands of the market. Yet, he is able to provide something distinctive in the overall delivery, presentation and packaging of the songs.
The theme song obviously is 'Kangal Kalangida' rendered effectively by Karthik. Variations of this song have been provided by Ranjith and Ganga (a fine singer who is unfairly dumped with just harmony work by most music directors) in 'Kangal Kandathu', and by Kay Kay and Sujatha in another duet with the same title 'Kangal Kandathu'.
Kay Kay and Ranjith have combined to provide a peppy number in 'Pangu Podu'. A soft number comes from Harish Raghavendra and Chinmayi but Yuvan has gone in quite needlessly for a very high pitch here. But then high-pitched songs seem to be favoured by a large number of young film-goers, judging by their success.
Unni Menon and chorus provide a short number in 'Unakku Enru Oruthi', while Devan, Ranjith, Sundararajan and chorus enjoy themselves in a typical racy number for the youth segment.
It is Sriram's lot to belt out high-pitched, fast numbers and this song is no exception - 'Thalappa Kattuda' - to produce a similar effect as in 'Tirunelveli
Halwada'.
Yuvan impresses with the album, brought out by Five Star Audio. The songs reverberate with the vigour of youth as it is a story of a college. The film is a Chozha Creations Limited-Sanghavi Media Works presentation and directed by Nanda
Periasamy.
