Rahman releases 'Mazhai' album

The audio CD of 'Mazhai', a Tamil re-make of the Telugu hit 'Varsha', was released by music director A R Rahman at a pleasant function in Chennai recently. 'Mazhai' is being produced by noted playback singer S P Balasubramaniam's production house, Capital Cinema, with his son and singer S P B Charan being fully engaged in the making of the film as the Producer.

Rahman was full of praise for the young music director Devi Sri Prasad, who provided the music score for the Telugu film and who has also scored the music for the Tamil version. "A few weeks ago, when I was in London, I happened to listen to a fast film number. I enquired about the music director, and came to know that the music was by Devi Sri Prasad. I was curious to meet him at the earliest. I am happy to have got the chance to see him so soon on this dais", said Rahman while warmly congratulating Prasad.

In return, Prasad said he was totally overwhelmed by the presence of Rahman at the function. "From my young days, I was a big fan of his music. I never dreamt that I would one day stand next to him and get a chance to take a photograph with him. Not just a photograph. I am thrilled no end that he has released the CD of my music for 'Mazhai'."

Rahman said the film is titled 'Mazhai' (Rain ), "something which we don't have enough of in Chennai". He hoped that with the release of the film, it would bring more rains for Tamil Nadu and 'rain of wealth' for the producer SPB.

The film has Jayam Ravi and Sreya (a popular actress in the Telugu film industry) in the lead. Lyrics are by Vairamuthu. The album has been released by Bayshore Records.

Actor Vijay received the first copy from Rahman and wished the unit success. When he was asked to describe his first experience with rains, Vijay said he had plenty of experiences with rains during his childhood but he would not like to divulge them.

SPB said he was grateful to Rahman for agreeing to release the audio CD though he himself was busy with another launch the same evening of his own studio.

"The celebrities on this dais have one thing in common -- Rahman, Vijay, the film's hero Jayam Ravi and Devi Sri Prasad -- all of them have achieved fame at a young age but they have never allowed it to go to their head. Secondly, they have put in a lot of hard work, More than anything else, it is the respect they have for their parents and elders and the way they have continued to be simple souls, is the real reason for their success and why they continue to be be on top for years together."

There was only one person SPB left out in that list on the dais -- himself!

SPB said he didn't want to sing in his own film, and told Devi Sri Prasad to give opportunities to other singers, younger singers in particular. "Yet, I was forced to sing one song", he added.

Charan said the unit was fabulous. He particularly singled out Jayam Ravi for his co-operation. Director Rajkumar (who is responsible for the screenplay and dialogue as well), produced such good results that no one would believe this was his first film. Rajkumar himself said he wanted to improve on the Telugu version and that is why he worked harder. He also didn't want to let down the people who had posed so much faith in him. "The film will be a hit, no doubt. It will be another hit for Jayam Ravi. It will be another hit for Devi Sri Prasad who had provided great music", he added.

Jayam Ravi said he was privileged to act in a film produced by a legend like SPB. He and the other artistes had put in a lot of hard work, and he was sure it would pay rich dividends.
