Hungarians perform BGM for Ilayaraja

Renowned music director Ilayaraja has performed the background music score for the forthcoming film Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, bringing them all the way to Chennai for the recording. The film is being made simultaneously in four languages (Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam) by producer Verghese for Welgate Cinemafox (P) Ltd.

Speaking after the recording session at Prasad Studios in Chennai, Ilayaraja said he wanted to compose the back ground score in a different manner for the film as it has an unusual storyline.

"The film is about a boy who wants to turn into a eunuch. As the movie is being made in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi, it requires a different kind of background score. Initially, I wanted to do it in Hungary with the symphony orchestra. As time is short, we decided to bring them here and do the recording in Chennai."

Six musicians played various instruments like the clarinet, flute and base clarinet. It was thought that the recording would take five days but it was completed in just two days, said a beaming Ilayaraja. Sandor Berk, a member of the Budapest Symphony Orchestra who plays the French horn, said Ilayaraja was a thorough professional and working with him was a refreshing experience.

The producer, Verghese, said the film was being readied for an all-India release on December 2, and it would provide enjoyable fare even for children.

Ilayaraja said, "The film will be an off-beat entertainer for kids. As it is being produced simultaneously in four languages, I wanted to do the (BGM) background score with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra from Hungary. I am glad producer Varghese okayed the proposal immediately and made arrangements to bring them here.

"He added, "The background music has come out very well. We are planning to release the re-recording as a separate album."

Verghese said, "It is a big-budget movie which is all about a young boy who wants to become a eunuch and a swamiji steps in and helps him lead a normal life. Ilayaraja is the heart and soul of the film and he has truly done a remarkable job. The movie is directed by Vayalar Madhavan."

The Budapest Symphony Orchestra had earlier done the music score for the film 'Hey Ram' starring Kamal Haasan with music by Ilayaraja as also in the album 'Thiruvasagam by Ilayaraja', for Tamil Maiyam.
