Director Shankar appropriately chose the Devi theatre in Chennai as the venue for the audio launch of his next venture - Boys - to make it a real big occasion as several bigwigs made it big.
Even as the stars and starlets who chose to grace the function basked under the arc lights, the soft-spoken Shankar appeared happy to let others take the centre stage.
True to his style, he chose to speak last and took care to mention the names of those involved with the production of his sixth film. Everyone who came to the podium expressed the hope that 'Boys' would be another feather in Shankar's cap.
Expectations are high whenever Shankar and music wizard A R Rahman ('Isai Puyal', as he is known in the film world) come together. Everytime, they have lived up to the hype, coming up with sensational hits.
For the audience who gathered for the launch, the brilliant picturisation and the audio quality, would only be a sign of things to come. A couple of songs which have been picturised, were screened for the eager crowd, which was ready to lap up some of the Shankar-Rahman magic.
For one of the songs - 'Maro..', more than 500 group dancers have been featured and it is a real spectacle for the viewers.
The stalwarts of Tamil cinema including lyricist Vaali, director Bharathiraja and writer Sujatha hoped that Shankar would rewrite the history of Tamil cinema and show to the world the technical advancements made by the Tamil film industry.
Vaali, who has written a couple of songs for Boys, said, 'But for the coming together of Shankar and Rahman, the depleting audio market cannot be set right'.
Bharathiraja in his inimitable style said, 'I was awestruck by the way in which the beautiful tunes of Rahman have been picturised. Shankar, who has taken Tamil cinema to a new dimension, should go on to score a double hat-trick through Boys.'
At a time when producers are hardly coming forward to make movies, A M Ratnam needs to be appreciated for making it a big budget film, which has five new faces in the lead, he pointed out.
Among those from the film world who were at hand to wish Shankar and his team success were directors Lingusamy, S J Surya, Hari, Dharani and R K Selvamani. They were all united in expressing the hope that the trio of A M Rathnam, Shankar and Rahman would create a history in Tamil filmdom and help end the troubles the industry is facing today.
Releasing the audio, the current heart-throb Vikram said, "The hardwork of Shankar was evident in the manner the songs have been picturised, and the songs have created an urge in everyone to see the film as early as possible". Actress Sneha received the first copy of the audio.
However, it was Vivek, who had everyone in splits with a speech laced with
humour.
Summing up, Shankar said, "Boys is all about the experiences everyone has during their teenage days."
Actresses Trisha, Meena, Vasundhara Das, actors Srikanth, Silambarasan and Sibiraj were among those present.
