Radio One FM 94.3 is on air in Chennai from January 10, 2007. It is positioned as a complete station for the youth and the young-at-heart listeners of Chennai, said Rajesh Tahil, CEO, Radio One.
An all-Tamil station, Radio One FM 94.3 in Chennai speaks the language of the young, talks about areas of interest to the young and plays hit songs that appeal to the young, Tahil said, adding that the racy, energetic, and well-packaged sound of the station will ensure an exciting listening experience for young
Chennai.
"In short, Radio One FM 94.3 is all set to live up to its tag line of non-stop hits, non-stop majaa, as a young, informative and responsible station," Tahil said.
L V Navaneeth, Station Head - Radio One, said it is the first radio station to have a full-fledged journalistic team to ensure that the station adds value content in the areas of city happenings, events and other youth relevant areas like education, jobs and careers, relationships, fashion, eating out, health and fitness, travel, sports and entertainment.
Radio One FM 94.3's team of young programming and journalistic talent, coupled with funny station characters like Nylex Neela, Rock 'n 'Roll Annachi and segments like Radio One Talkies will ensure for the first time a complete listening experience for young Chennai, he pointed out.
To demonstrate this commitment, Radio One FM 94.3 has launched a unique 'Celebrate Chennai' programming initiative with the top 50 icons of
Chennai.
Starting January 10, some of the biggest names in the Tamil film industry turn RJs on Radio One between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. In their role as RJs, these stars celebrate the spirit of Chennai on Radio One, Navaneeth said. Each day, a different star shares his or her life in Chennai, speaks about what he or she likes about our wonderful city and finally signs off with a message for today's young. This effort, with 50 stars over 50 days is sure to make 2007 the year of celebrating Chennai and instil a greater sense of pride about the city, he added.
Radio One is a Mid-Day Multimedia and BBC Worldwide venture. The company has licences to operate seven FM stations across India - Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune. All markets that matter. Chennai is the fourth launch for Radio One, after Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. The other stations in Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad will be launched close of the heels of the Chennai launch, Navaneeth said, adding that Chennai was a fast-changing city, and it was opening up more and more with every passing day.
