The Rotaract Club of College of Engineering, Guindy, has organised a musical concert featuring famous singers and a dance show as a fund-raiser for Sangarsh'07 on March 17, 2007, (Saturday) at the Music Academy, Chennai. The fund-raiser event is a blend of musical concert and dance show. Good singers like Ranjith and Saindhavi will perform as well as the winners of the Vijay TV show, Jodi No.1, in the dance show.

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women of ages 18 to 30.
Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary Club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family. Rotaract is neither politically nor religiously affiliated. Today, there are some 1,49,000 members in more than 6,500 Rotaract clubs around the world.
The College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG) in Chennai, India, is one of the constituent colleges of Anna University. It was started in May 1794 as a School of Survey, and is one of the oldest technical institutes in the world. CEG offers under-graduate, postgraduate and doctoral study programs in many fields of engineering, through its various departments, split under the faculties such as civil, mechanical, electronics and communication, IT, electrical, mechanical and science and humanities. Rhodes India ranks Guindy Engineering College among the top l0 in India.
Established in the late 1980s, the Rotaract Club of CEG (RCEG) has grown to become second largest Rotaract Club in Asia. The club, which draws its members from the student body, functions independently but under the guidance of the deans and the parent club, Rotary Club of Madras South. RCEG is involved in a lot of community service initiatives and raises funds through charity shows and individual contributions. A group of young enthusiastic engineering graduates derived from all parts of India, they are united in serving the community and enjoying new venues of fellowship.
The locally based, internationally organised service club, Sangarsh Movement, was started by Rotaract Club of CEG in 2002-2003. This was aimed at promoting community service among the underprivileged. Sangarsh has been a successful ongoing social service project of RCEG since then. It was awarded the best ongoing social service project award by the District Rotaract Council in 2006.
In 2003, the club donated six motorised tricycles to the physically challenged staff and students of CEG, worth Rs 75,000. In 2004, RCEG raised funds for Cancer Institute, Adyar. The club conducted a charity show at Music Academy, Alwarpet, on March 7, 2004. A cheque for Rs 50,000 was presented to Rajasekar of Cancer Institute, Adyar, by the then President Rtn. M Prathap Rao of Rotaract Club of
CEG.
Sangarsh'05 was aimed at donating an audio library of nearly 1,000 cassettes to the Government School of Blind, Poonamalle, and the Little Flower Convent. The syllabus books for students and a wide range of other books were given in audio format. The cassettes were obtained from Vizhiyagam Madurai, the only audio library for the visually challenged in India. A fund-raiser was organised on March 20, 2005, at the Music Academy for this cause.
Through Sangarsh'06, the club donated an ambulance to the Community Health Education Service (CHES), the organisation in Tamil Nadu which cares for more than 40 HIV-affected children. In this regard, a fund-raiser was organised featuring a music show by Lakshman Sruthi group and a dance show by John Britto's group. The funds collected through this programme were used to buy the ambulance.
This year the beneficiary would be special children, i.e. mentally retarded and spastic children. This year, the club plans to meet the needs of two homes for such special children, namely RASA and
Samarpana.
