Radio One FM 94.3 has tied up with BBC for
providing some of its content. Launched in January 2007, it has,
during the course of five months, endeared itself to listeners
and continues to grow in strength. The secret behind this
success is the innovative programming and its continuous
celebration of Chennai. Yet another innovation for the benefit
of listeners is the tie-up with BBC for providing content on its
Breakfast Show. Starting June 6, 2007, Radio One has made subtle
changes to its programming mix to ensure that Radio One
demonstrates its core promise consistently and continuously
every 20 minutes.
EL V Navaneeth, station head, Radio One,
Chennai, said, "We are proud and delighted to carry original
content in Tamil from BBC on our station. BBC is a household
name in Chennai and this association will certainly add value to
listeners and help Radio One build further on the strong
position it has built for itself."
Radio One also announced that Suchitra, one
of Chennai's best known radio voices, will host the Breakfast
Show. Suchi will entertain and engage listeners on Radio One
from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Saturday. "We want to be
a dominant player in this market and also emerge as a station
that attracts the best radio talent. Suchi will add to the
enormous creative and people talent which have helped build
Radio One as a leading brand in a short span of time," he said.
Neil Curry, head of Business Development,
Asia Pacific, BBC World Service, said, "We are delighted to
extend our programming partnership to Radio One in Chennai.
Bringing BBC programmes in Tamil for the people of Chennai is a
great step and we hope that the audience will love the
combination of Radio One and BBC."
BBC World Service has been providing non-news
programmes to Radio One stations in Delhi and Mumbai since
September 2006. This content partnership has been received well
by the audience in the two metros as BBC brings celebrity names
and guests to Radio One's excellent programming line-up. BBC has
also brought exclusive content for the Radio One audience from
both the cricket and football World Cups and from a number of
major international entertainment events. A part of the BBC
programme offer is the weekly chat show 'Ek Mulaqat', broadcast
on Sundays on Radio One. It has been awarded the prize of 'Most
Innovative Programme' at the annual India Radio Forum awards.
Navaneeth said Radio One operated seven FM
stations across India from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore,
Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune. The channel is positioning itself
as a young and vibrant station. Although Suryan FM could be said
to be the No. 1 channel, Radio One was an energetic, fun and
responsible brand that does things differently, and the people
liked its content and style, he added.
