Meaning:
Mother Nilayatakshi! Of the compassionate glance! Witness to all happenings in this universe! Glance with compassion in my direction!
Possessor of lips like the Bimba fruit! Mirror to the soul for those who are liberated! One who has
mastered the core of sound! Benevolent! Sister of the beloved of Lakshmi! Support me! All pervasive!
Decorated with the Kadamba flowers of different hues! Wearing blue silk raiment!
Presiding over the holy spot called Shivarajadhani (Nagapattinam)! Confidante to all those seeking
refuge! Enchantress of Shiva, who is Kayarohanesa ! Established in the inner consciousness! Present as
the nine yoginis in the Sri Chakra! Possessing a gentle smile that has the nine emotions in it! Effulgent
as a golden idol! Possessing a radiant smile! Creating, preserving and destroying this world in sport!
Queen of the earth! Giver of all that is desired! Playing a veena that has all the nine gems encrusted on
it! Realised by Subrahmanya, preceptor to Shiva! One who is full of affection!
Notes:
This kriti is on the presiding Goddess at Nagapattinam. The raga name is in the anupallavi. The
Goddess in the temple, does not have a veena in her hands. But Dikshitar uses this phrase in Mamava
Meenakshi as well (mANikya vallaki pANi), though Meenakshi again does not sport a
veena.
The kriti uses some Manipravala words such as kaTAkshi and Adari.
