Bangalore K Venkataraman passes away

The reputed ghatam artiste from Karnataka, Bangalore K Venkataraman passed away on 18th October 2003.

The end came at the conclusion of a concert at Tirunelveli, organised by the AIR as part of the Radio Sangeet Sammelan series. Sri Venkataraman was accompanying the Hyderabad Brothers.

As the Director of the Percussive Arts Centre, Bangalore, Sri Venkataraman was doing yeoman service to the cause of music, by organising concerts, holding lec dems and above all celebrating centenaries of artistes of yesteryears. The Centre had instituted the Palghat Mani Iyer award. The annual festival of Talavadyotsava was looked forward to by the music lovers of Bangalore. 

Sri Venkataraman is survived by his son V Krishna who is a mridangam player and daughter Kalavati Avadhoot who is a vocalist.
