The Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer
Trust, set up by Semmangudi R Srinivasa Iyer and Maharajapuram V Santhanam, is observing its 18th anniversary on
November 28.
Satguru Gnanananda Hall, Narada Gana Sabha, will be the venue and the programme will commence at
4 p.m. A video recording of a live performance of Maharajapuram Santhanam will be the first event of the function.
The prestigious Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer award will be awarded to
T V Sankaranarayanan. The award comprises a gold medal and a cash component.
T T Vasu presides and R Krishnaswamy of Narada Gana Sabha will inaugurate the
programme. Noted critic K S Mahadevan will unveil the portrait of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and reminisce about him. Former director of Doordarshan A.Natarajan, and
P S Narayanaswamy will felicitate the
awardee.
The trust will be honouring eminent personalities related
to the field of Carnatic music. The awardees are Thanjavur Venkatesa Iyengar, Parur M Ganesan, Dr R Ganesh, S Varadarajan, Thanjavur Murugabhoopathy and Melakkavari Balaji among performing artistes.
In addition, Dr
V V Srivatsa, musicologist, Y G Mahendra of Bharat Kalachar and Neela Ramakrishna of Jayendra Bhakta Samaj will also be honoured. The programme will be followed by a vocal recital of
T V Sankaranarayanan, accompanied by Nagai Muralidharan (violin), Thiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam
(mridangam) and Trivandrum Rajagopal (ghatam).
