Saree makes waves in BBC
 A British journalist wore the saree for the first time in the history of BBC's Midlands Today show, and created a wave of interest in the dress.
Sharuna Sagar (29), a regional newsreader for the
BBC Midlands Today, provided a bit of surprise one morning when she appeared in the traditional Indian dress, the saree, to provide the morning news.
Normally, she doesn't have enough time to put on a saree as she has to get up at 4 a.m. to report for work. It takes her a good 15 minutes to get draped in a saree. Further, she needs help. "Like a bow tie, you need to get it right."
One day, when she was to do the late news and had more time on hand, she asked acting editor Dave Hart whether she can appear in a saree and he gave her an instantaneous okay.
Sharuna, whose family is in Hyderabad, believes that the saree is a beautiful dress and that the newsreaders of Indian channels look beautiful and professional as well in their
sarees.
As a British Asian, she is proud of her Indian culture, and likes to reflect both cultures. A tough job,
aren't it? Cheers anyway, to the great Indian saree.
