Rahman’s Unity of Light
Vijay TV has created a niche for itself in presenting mega ‘live’ events with some of the best entertainers in Tamil films.
A R
Rahman’s Unity of Light was his first performance in Chennai, his hometown. It was the coming together of India’s finest performers -
S P Balasubramaniam, S Janaki,
Hariharan, Chitra, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh,
Srinivas, Sadhana Sargam, Mahalakshmi, Anupama, Vasundara Das and
Karthik, among others.
Live, and at home for the first time, Rahman got a rousing reception when he appeared on stage in a shower of golden sparks. The stage was electrified - looked stunning with elaborate lights in all the colours. The ‘Rahmaniacs’ had more than a blast - fireworks in the sky and confetti all around the stage, punctuated the musical evening that gave the best of Rahman, songs from some of his biggest movies like 'Roja', 'Bombay', 'Dil Se', 'Mudhalvan', 'Alaipayuthey' and 'Love Birds'.
A highlight of the show was when Rahman himself joined
Hariharan at the mike and had the audience in raptures in the song 'Sakhiye' (Alaipayuthey), and later had the audience swaying with the catchy rhythm of his 'Dil Se' number.
The show was one of the biggest in terms of scale and appeal. The stage itself was the biggest in recent times measuring 120 ft x 60 ft. It was lit up with ‘intelligent’ lights and the sound was a whopping 60,000 watts! Designers especially flown in from Canada took care of the stage design. More than 35,000 fans turned up to watch the maestro perform.
The show will be aired by Vijay TV on July 11 & July 18 at 11.30 a.m. as a two-part series. Watching Rahman at home is quite a treat. Though a repeat show, it has all the trappings of a not-to-be-missed event.
