VJ hunt of SS Music
Southern
Spice Music, the multi-lingual music channel, has announced the launch of EVA
Deo VJ factor , their VJ hunt in Chennai.
AirTel is an associate sponsor
while Le Royal Meridien is the official hotel.
The elimination rounds will
take place on November 20 and 21 with the finals slated for November 22.
Panelists include noted music director and playback singer Pravin Mani, fashion
photographer Sharad Haksar. Leading cine stars and city's socialites are also
expected to join the panel of judges, said Bryan Peppin, Head, Programming and
Production, SS Music.
To
ensure that the message gets to the target prospects, SS music has planned
extensive road shows, prominent hoardings and has placed dispensers at
convenient locations such as cinema theatres, music retail outlets and book
stores, railway station and bus stand, Bryan said.
Introducing EVA deo VJ factor,
Craig, male VJ of SS music, said to maintain our special identity of the
channel, and its multi-lingual format, SS music will introduce new VJs for new
programs under planning. For any person to succeed as VJ, the most important
charcteristic is inter-personal relatianship skills.
When any viewer phones a VJ,
that particular moment is very impartant to the viewer and the VJ has to
appreciate it fully. Depending on the nature of the programme, the viewer may
either be seeking advice or simply asking far a song of his choice.
"The
way the VJ responds and relates to the viewer will determine whether the viewer
will continue to watch the channel. So far as the VJ's experience at SS music is
concerned, we have been able to act as effective bridges between the programmes,
the channel and the viewers. Newer programming formats require fresh
talent", Bryan added.
SS music is looking for such
talent who would not only feel comfortable with English as the language of the
channel but also with the four South Indian languages of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada
and Malayalam, Bryan said adding that "we already have very positive TAM
ratings and the channel is growing. We would like to welcome newer friends who
can bring in newer audiences to the channel."
DJ Shreya said SS Music was
looking out for three or four VJs, mainly to host new programmes planned by the
channel. Knowledge of at least South Indian language in addition to English and
Hindi was essential as the VJs had to talk to listeners from rural areas in
their own language. The new DJs would not be a threat to the existing ones as
listeners would like to have some variety, she added.
"Southern Spice Music
constantly reviews the pulling power of its programmes and plans to phase out
programmes on the wane in favour of newer programmes from time to time. One such
recent introduction is the Virtual Request, launched about a month ago",
Bryan said.
"While the new virtual
request is a non-VJ based programme, we have other VJ-based programmes under
evaluation. We would like the new VJs to host these progammes, this is merely to
ensure that they do not step into programmes hosted earlier by other VJs and
hence constantly under the comparative scanner. With newer programs each of the
new VJs will be able to build their own character and relationships and thus
increase the acceptability of the programmes with newer audiences", added
Bryan.
SS
Music channel had a turnover of Rs eight crore last year and it would achieve Rs
12 crore this year, according to present projections, Bryan said.
Bryan said there were over
5,000 applications from Chennai alone for the VJ hunt programme. From the
short-list of 250, two or three VJs may be picked in Chennai, he said (they are
looking out for those in the age group of 18-28). Nalina Saravanan, Operations
Manager, Hotel Le Royal Meridien, and Ramesh K Narain, Chief Officer, Sales and
Marketing, Airtel, said their companies were happy to associate with the event.
Airtel received hundreds of calls from those wanting to participate in the VJ
hunt, Narain said.
