Saregama Kurumbu contest
Saregama India announced on September 17 the winners of the 'Kurumbu' singing contest which reached a climax at the HFO in Hotel Quality Inn Aruna,
Chennai.
The company had tied up with SS Music and Cadbury's to launch this contest spread across four cities of Tamil Nadu -- Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Coimbatore -- and the Union Territory of Pondicherry to select the best singers. Six finalists vied for the top spot on September 17, trying to impress the panel of judges comprising lyricist Pa Vijay, heroine of the 'Kurumbu' film Diya and singers Shalini and Sunitha Sarathy. The contest was organised as part of a promotional campaign for the forthcoming Tamil film
'Kurumbu'.
Youngsters participating in the contest were required to sing the songs in a manner that resembled the original song. The lucky winner was Prema Ikbal of Pondicherry who bagged a Scooty Pep, the fun bike from TVS Motors. She received the prize from Mano Akkineni, who represented the film's producer.
J Pavitra from Coimbatore finished second, Sam CS from Tiruchirapalli third, Nihal Mahmood from Chennai fourth, Divya Meenakshi from Madurai fifth, and Latha Venkatesh from Coimbatore sixth.
The young singers sang with verve and gusto, using the minus-track of music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has composed some peppy, foot-tapping numbers for the movie.
Saregama's Regional Marketing Manager Chemmal Manian said the contest, aimed at promoting young talent, was a big hit judging by the response in all the centres. 'Kurumbu' being a youth-oriented film, had some fine music specifically for the youth. He thanked all the participants and the panel of judges for the smooth conduct of the contest.
HFO provided the right ambience for the contest.
