Meaning:
Creator of delight! One who rains nectar! Wife of Bhava (Shiva)! True wealth! Worshipped by Shiva and others!
Protector of Cupid! Mother of Subrahmanya! Manifest as the Self! Residing in the hearts of those steeped in bliss! Compassionate! I meditate on you all the time praying for good rain! Shower! Shower! Shower water!
Notes:
This is the famed rain song of Muttuswami Dikshitar, said to have been composed while journeying through a drought-hit region near Ettayapuram. The raga's name is in the opening line. Such was the effect that it poured and the area was flooded. To stop the torrent, Dikshitar’s disciples sang the same song, changing the last word to 'sthambaya'.
