Music walk at George Town

held the George Town walk on the December 21 with Sriram.V and Swarna Rethas taking a group of 25 music and heritage lovers on a trip to the area. The walk covered King George V’s statue, the Gokhale Hall on Armenian Street and then went on to Tiruvottiyur Tyagier’s house on Ramaswamy Street.

Then came the Chenna Kesava Perumal Temple on Devaraja Mudali Street, where Rajarathinam Pillai gave one of his earliest performances in Madras. This was followed by Manali Muttukrishna Mudaliar’s residence on Govindappa Naicken Street.

Next came Veena Dhanammal’s house on Ramakrishna Chetty Street. Participants went into the house and viewed the room where the famed Friday concerts were held.

A visit to the Tiruvannamalai Matam Hall followed, where Maha Vaidyanatha Sivan had once quelled Madras Venu. The last stop was M L Vasanthakumari’s birthplace at 108 Anna Pillai Street.

The walk concluded with breakfast at The Classical Stores.
