The Old Lady of TTK Road has decided to adopt a low profile this season according to reliable sources. This comes after a year of being in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Consider the facts. The Academy has remained in the limelight for its litigation, the quarrels among those who are its “governing” body and above all the active mud-slinging that each one has chosen to indulge in, using all the media clout (right down to the rear windows of autorickshaws) that he/she can muster. 'The New Indian Express' went to town on the infighting and this resulted in some sobering down and a reflection that matters were getting out of hand.
The court’s decision came as a further dose of oil on troubled waters. This was the first time in many years that the season did not begin on December 15th at the Academy. The choice of the Sangita Kalanidhi has been a safe one that has met with universal approval. No controversies were stirred up.
The choice of the chief guest for the inauguration has also been low profile. Sri Krishnaraj Vanavarayar is a very good speaker, a genuine lover of music and one who maintains a low profile in the interest of getting some solid work done for the promotion of the arts.
The choice of Dr M Balamuralikrishna for the Sadas function is definitely colourful and one can look forward to his speech on that day. The health of the president of the Academy, T T Vasu is said to be indifferent.
The lec dem schedule shows that Vaggeyakara Vaibhavam has been adopted somewhat half-heartedly for many of the topics are not related to this theme.
