season is also awards time.
The Music Academy’s awards are of course the most looked forward to and this year the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi goes to
T V Sankaranarayanan, prime disciple and nephew of Madurai Mani Iyer. The award adds one more to the T Sabhesa Iyer sishya parampara, with T Sabhesa Iyer, his disciples Harikesanallur L Muthaiah Bhagavatar and Musiri Subramanya Iyer, Muthaiah Bhagavatar’s disciple Madurai Mani Iyer and Musiri’s disciples
T K Govinda Rao and Mani Krishnaswami all being Sangita
Kalanidhis.
The Sangita Kala Acharya award goes to veteran violinist
M S Anantharaman of the Parur family. In addition the TTK Award goes to S R D Vaidyanathan and Guruvayur Vaidyanathan of the Semponnarkoil family of
nagaswaram artistes. The Papa K S Venkataramaiah Award goes to violinist A
Kanyakumari.
The Indian Fine Arts Society is conferring its title of Sangita Kala Shikhamani on veteran mridangist Guruvayur Dorai. The Tamizh Isai Sangam is awarding the title of Tamizh Isai Perarignar to music director
M S Viswanathan. The Mylapore Fine Arts Club’s Sangita Kala Nipuna goes to T N

Sankaranarayanan, we conclude with him. He is also to receive the Sangita Ma Mani from Sri Rama Bhakta Jana Samaj and the Sangita Kala Jyoti from Sri Kapali Fine Arts.
That is more or less it. As I write, I find that the Sangita Nataka Akademi awards have been announced and Trichur V Ramachandran features in it. But that can feature in another article, can it not?
