The Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, presented the Paddhati music awards of carnatica.com to eminent musicians in Chennai on December 1, 2003.
PADDHATI, a 100% traditional music festival series in a 100% traditional ambience, has been organised by carnatica.com from December 1 to 8, 2003, at the 'Amethyst', Gopalapuram in
Chennai.
The series comprises four unique segments in each day's programme: Parampara (Vintage reminiscences of old masters with recordings and multimedia presentations), Pathanthara (Thematic presentations and concerts by experts on various musical forms & traditions), Prasangam (Panel discussions and lec-dems led by eminent musicians & musicologists, on specialized subjects) & Pallavi (Grand music concert, with special thematic
pallavis)
The Sankaracharya presented the music awards to honour Sangita Kalanidhis R K Srikantan and R Vedavalli, the Composer award to Thanjavur Sankara Iyer, Teacher award to P S Narayanaswami, the Pallavi award to J Venkataraman, a special award to S R Krishnamurthy, and the Press award to The Hindu daily.
The Kanchi math will honour 51 persons in the categories of musicians, Saiva Pulavars and Devata Pujaris who are working in the villages at functions in Chennai on December 18, 19 and 20.
The December 1 programme began with Mangala Isai (Vintage Nadaswaram excerpts from great maestros), followed by Guru Vandanam to Semmangudi Srinivasa
Iyer.
A musical homage with audio-visual presentations by Vidwan V.
Subrahmanyam.
Radhika Prithiviraj (Managing Director, Tharakaram Silk House, Coimbatore) lighted the traditional lamp.
