Trichur Brothers sing with one voice

The twin attraction of Trichur Brothers, Srikrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan, enthralled the audience with one voice at the 32 ft Anjaneyar temple in Nanganallur during its music series. The evergreen classic ‘Balakanakamaya’ in Atana by Tyagaraja was etched with classical grace. Their special sancharas brought out the whole gamut of the raga excellently.

‘Jambupathe’ was dripping with Yamuna Kalyani. This piece by Muthuswamy Dikshitar propitiates Akilandeswari’s consort Jambulingeswarar.

The brothers’ fast rendition of ‘Nenarunchinanu’ in Malavi by Tyagaraja explored new dimensions of the raga. Bhavam and sowkhyam are their forte.

‘Sujana Jivana’ in Khamas was rendered with bhakti and devotion. Tyagaraja’s ishta devata Rama is extolled here and the brothers thought it apt to render this song with bhava and bhakti.

Their main piece was ‘Paripalaya’ in Panthuvarali by Swati Tirunal. Their alapana, niraval and swaras were steeped in classicism and purity. It looked as if there was only one person singing. Their voices blended excellently.

Violinist Avaneeswaram Vinu played in consonance with the vocalists. Mridangist Trichur Mohan lent considerable support. D V Venkatasubramaniam played with vim and vigour.
