Anuradha Passion for Music
Anuradha was born on 30th August 1968 to "Sangeetha
Kalanidhi" Shri K.V. Narayanaswamy and Smt. Padma Narayanaswamy. Her
home environment vibrated with traditional Carnatic Music, as both her
parents are professional musicians. Hence, the language of communication
was music. In her third year she started to sing and as she grew up got
more interested and spent more time either, repeating what she heard at
home or, at times not imitating but singing in her own way. When she was
10, she was initiated to the grammar of music with the traditional
rituals. Her Guru was her mother Smt. Padma, who taught her the various
aspects of music. In school, she had taken part in many music competitions
and won prizes. At 13 she was permitted to join her mother in her concerts
and n 1986 Anuradha gave her first public solo performance under the
auspices of the Indian Fine Arts Society, Madras, during their December
Music Festival. She was awarded a scholarship by the "Ford Foundation" in 1991 and underwent training for six months under the tutelage of "Sangeetha Kalanidhi" Dr. T. Vishwanathan and "Padmabushan" Smt. T. Brinda (The grandchildren of the Great Smt. Late Veenai Dhanammal). Subsequently Anuradha learned from Shri Dr. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and "Padmabushan" Dr. Smt. M.S. Subhalakshmi. She is presently under the guidance of Smt. Radha Viswanathan. Anuradha had been adjudged as the "Best Junior Vocalist" in the December Music Festival organised by the "Naradha Gana Sabha" in 1991. She is an "A" Grade Artiste in the AIR Madras, with regular music programmes. She is a B.A. (Music) Degree Holder from the University of Madras. Though her own commitments keep her busy and touring all over India, she has also joined her parents in their overseas musical engagements. In 1996 she visited Oman and the U.A.E. and gave a series of performance there. She received two awards during the 1997 December Music Season. One from the prestigious Music Academy (The D.K. Pattamal Award) and one from the Indian Fine Arts Society. The Tamil Isai Sangam, Madurai, has honoured her with the Valarum Kalaignar Award in 1998. In August 1998, she received an Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha for her performance in the 1997 festival. Anuradha was invited by the Govt. of India to perform on 15th August 1999 at Brussels. Later she performed at the Festival of India at Edinburgh called the "Indian Summer" on 18th August 1999. This year the Bharat Kalachar has chosen her for their prestigious "Yuva Kala Bharathi" Award. This will be presented during the coming December Festival. Married to Sri. Suresh Krishnamurthi, an Advocate practising in the Madras High Court, Anuradha and Suresh share a common passion for music and reading. Anuradha considers herself fortunate to have been blessed by the great Mridangam Maestro "Padmabushan" Sri. Palghat Mani Iyer saw in her the seeds of musicality when she was young. He also took upon himself to advice her parents to devote her to music. Her father Shri K.V. Narayanaswamy devotes more time now in shaping her music. It is Anuradha's desire to sing, gain experience and with God’s grace become a professional musician of the highest calibre. Anuradha has released five cassettes so far. She now comperes a Carnatic Music talent promotion programme on Raj TV called "Ragam Sangeetham". (ARK Commercials) |
