Family Background

Pushpa Kashinath hails from a family of musicians for many generations. Her grandfather the Late Vid. Arunachalappa was a Harmonium vidwan of great repute. Her father, Sri..B. Vishwanath, is a very renowned Violin artiste, and her mother Smt. Saraswathi is a noted Veena player. Her father-in-law Ganakalabhushana A. Veerabhadraiah is the senior most Violinist of Karnataka and also the Proprietor of M/s. Aruna Musicals, who are the leading manufacturers, importers and exporters of musical Instruments, Strings and accessories. Her husband, A.V. Kashinath, is a popular Mridangam and Kanjira Vidwan, who has adopted innovative techniques in making musical instruments.

Musical Learning

Her mother Smt. Saraswathi trained Pushpa Kashinath at the tender age of nine. She had her advanced training under Smt. T. Sharada, Reader in Music, Dept. of Music, Maharani’s College, Bangalore. Later under Sri. Anoor S. Ramakrishna, Reader in Music, Bangalore University and Principal, Ayyanar College of Music, Bangalore.

Performances

Pushpa gave her maiden concert at the age of 12 and she has not look back since then. She has participated in several music Conferences and music Festivals in and out of Karnataka. She is one among the graded artist’s cadre of All India Radio and Doordarshan, where she has been performing constantly for the past 12 years. Her playing calibre as a front-ranking Veena player is also recognised by the Film and Cassette Recordings.

Recognition

Pushpa Kashinath has won many prizes during her student days both in Veena and Vocal competitions. The most prestigious prize is the "Best Instrumentalist" award from Bangalore Gayana Samaja during their Annual Music Conference. She was awarded the title "Swarashree" by the Basava Seva Samithi, Bangalore, during their Annual Music Festival.
