Dr. Tadepally Lokanadha Sarma, M.Mus,. Ph.D.

Born on June 8, 1945, Lokanadha Sarma hails from a family of Musicians from Tenali in Andhra Pradesh. He was initiated in to Music by his revered father Sri. T.V. Subrahmanya Sastry. This precious paternal "Gurukala Siksha" was subsequently supplemented by the following formal academic qualifications:

For his research thesis, "A Study of Musical Instrumentation with Particular Reference to Sanskrit Musical Literature".

During the youthful years of study, Lokanadha Sarma had the privilege of receiving training from stalwarts like Sri Musiri Subramania Iyer and Sri Chittoor Subramania Pillai. His devotion to Music and his grateful respect for his Gurus, constitute the foundation of his life. His mellifluous voice is a gift of God and his music is full of "BHAVA", touching the "Heart-Strings" of even the last man in the audience. By nature, he is very pleasant and sensitive. He does not believe in undue self projection, though this may mean considerable delay in his receiving due recognition.

EXPERIENCE

He is an "A" Grade Artist of All India Radio. With his deep roots in Classical Music, Sarma has an amazing capacity to imbibe other musical forms, including Folk Songs of different regions. In the course of three and half decades, he has presented numerous Classical Concerts in almost all the important cities and towns in India. Performed in the Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan – 1995.

Apart from this concert career, he has also worked as:

  1. Staff member of the Song and Drama Division, Armed Forces Entertainment Wing (AFEW), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India, New Delhi – 1969.
  2. Lecturer in Theory (Carnatic Music) at the Govt. College of Music and Dance, Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh – 1971. (8 years of Teaching Experience).
  3. (Present Post) Deputy Director, Sangita Vadyalaya, Development Centre for Musical Instruments, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Minstry of Textiles, Government of India, Madras – 1979 (UPSC Selection).

Sarma is transparently sincere in anything that he undertakes and that too with a thirst for perfection. He is simple, charming and straight forward.

Suswaraa: Founded an institution, named Suswaraa in 1989. A fortnight festival is the present activity of the Sabha, to unearth the talent of the existing Musicians Community, by providing a stage and to confer the Title "Sangita Kala Jyothi" worth its name on a most deserving Artiste, who is either ignored or left uncared in the field.
