Suguna Purushottaman Born at Madras, daughter of C. Ananthachari and C. Vedavalli, Suguna Purushottaman hails from a musical family. Had her initial lessons from her grandmother. Got the diploma in music from the University of Madras and had advanced training under Musiri Subramania Ayyar with a Government of India scholarship. Obtained a diploma in veena too. Took special training from Tinniam Venkatarama Ayyar in pallavi singing. Made her debut at Tiruvallur in 1957. Has since then been giving concerts on the All India Radio, Doordarshan, sabhas, etc. Has given demonstration of rare pallavis, practised the art of keeping two different talas simultaneously and singing (Dwi Tala Avadana) and assisted her tutor, Tinniam Venkatarama Ayyar in the publication of Pallavi Rathnamala. Had won prizes and got a scholarship for Annamacharya kirthanas from Tirupathi Tirumalai Devasthanams. |
